Our Musical Journey Together

At Phillip Sangwine Music, we believe that music should be an integral part of everyone’s life and we get great pleasure out of seeing students achieve when learning new pieces; be it for pleasure or exams.

With a passion for music teaching, we at Phillip Sangwine Music offer a range of music lessons in the following instruments and disciplines

Piano (classical or jazz), Singing (classical or music theatre), Sight singing, Organ, Music theory from our studio in York.

Meet Our Dedicated Teachers

At Phillip Sangwine Music, our teachers are passionate about nurturing the musical talents of our students. They are committed to providing a supportive and enriching environment for learning.

Phillip Sangwine

Phillip Sangwine

MA, LRSCM, DipABRSM, CRCO, PGCE, QTS, MISM

Phillip is the founder and principal of Phillip Sangwine Music.

 

Having studied with the RSCM and Bangor University he gained his MA in Music in 2013. He also has a teaching diploma from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from St John’s College, York. Having worked in the state sector in Schools, Phillip passed his induction period and gained QTS status. Phillip is also a member of Incorporated Society of Musicians.

 

Away from teaching Phillip has also been a church musician for thirty years with many years leading church choirs. He is currently Director of Music at  St Mary’s Priory Church at Old Malton and Organist at St Stephen's Parish Church in Acomb.

Renate Sangwine

Renate Sangwine

BA (Hons), LLCM (Singing), ALCM (Piano),CertRSCM, ALAM, PGCE, MISM

Renate is a teacher at Phillip Sangwine Music, having joined in 2020.

 

Having studied Dance at the University of Surrey, she also studied singing and piano privately whilst doing her degree and gained Licentiate in singing and Associate in piano performance from the London College of Music. Renate also holds a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from St John’s College, York before working in Private Schools in High Wycombe and Oxshott. Renate is also a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians.

 

Away from teaching Renate has also been a church musician for many years with several years leading church choirs.

Our terms follow that being set by the City of York Council. We do however still teach outside the set term dates for those who want lessons outside term times.

Autumn term 2024

First half of term: Monday 2 September to Friday 25 October

Half-term holiday: Monday 28 October to Friday 1 November

Second half of term: Monday 4 November to Friday 20 December

Spring term 2025

First half of term: Monday 6 January to Friday 14 February
